CHANEL SPRING-SUMMER 2012 - PRESS KIT

In the Grand Palais in Paris, the 2012 Spring-Summer Ready-to-Wear collection by Chanel dives dreamily into the depths of the ocean.
Like modern day nymphs, the models emerge from an augmented conical shaped shell, to bloom in this fantasy underwater world.
Tropical fish, coral, seaweed and pearly sponges all take on an abstract quality.
"The shapes of sea life are ultra modern, beautiful and timeless" explains Karl Lagerfeld.
The new style is ultra feminine, light and airy. The Chanel look is redefined with an androgynous fronted silhouette that flares from behind.
The suit is a deconstructed jacket-blouson hybrid, with sleeves curt short or the back cut out. On a re-proportioned dress, sleeves puff out with volume. Prints adorn a petite raincoat in clear PVC. Micro shorts and jeans are plastic-coated, skirts are in creased muslin or waffle silk.
"Silicone, cellophane, paper, and even fibreglass: new materials wigh nothing; they are immaterial" notes Karl Lagerfeld.
Other materials, natural or manmade, showcase in porcelain pink, pearly white, coral and sea blue hues. A gleaming silk puff dress is embroidered with black seaweed lace. A beaded lace jacket is enhanced with silicon; a top bedecked in frayed slivers of organza resembles a sea anemone. Stylised waves can be spotted in the geometric inlay of black braid on tweed and the edges of a jacket imitate the tentacles of a jellyfish.
"The look only works on a flat silhouette" notes Karl Lagerfeld.
Black and white boots, silver flip-flops laced high up the ankle. Pearly resin seashell clutches, exotic leather clutches edged with pearls, tiny jellyfish purses in embroidered silicon. Chanel quilted leather is transformed int a package, bundled up in a chain, like a treasure that has risen to the surface.
The look is dripping with pearls: around the neck, along the spine, and nestling gleaming in the hair. Used as buttons or taking the place of a chain belt, pearls punctuate and highlight the fresh new look of the 2012 Spring-Summer Ready-to-Wear Collection.

Au Grand Palais, plongée onirique dans les fonds sous-marins pour la collection Prêt-à-Porter Printemps-Eté 2012 de Chanel.

Les mannequins, des nymphes contemporaines, émergent d'une conque géante pour évoluer dans un univers aquatique fantasmé.

Poissons exotiques, coraux, algues et éponges nacrées deviennent quasi abstraits. "Les formes de la mer sont archimodernes, belles et intemporelles" explique Karl Lagerfeld.

La nouvelle silhouette, ultra féminine, légère et diaphane. L'allure de Chanel est redéfinie par le profil extra-plat à l'avant et bombé dans le dos. Pour le tailleur : veste hybridée avec le blouson déstructurée, à manches raccourcies ou dos découpé.

Robe reproportionnée avec des volumes placés sur les manches. Petit imperméable en PVC transparent imprimé. Les micro-shorts ou les jeans sont plastifiés, les jupes en mousseline plissée ou soie gaufrée.

"Silicone, cellophane, papier ou encore fibre de verre : Les nouvelles matières ne pèsent rien, elles sont immatérielles" commente Karl Lagerfeld. D'autres, naturelles ou très techniques, dans des rose porcelaine, blanc nacré, corail et bleu océanique. La robe en soie irisée et cloquée est rebrodée de dentelles d'algues en plastique noir, la veste en dentelle perlée est siliconée, le top ressemble à une anémone de mer en lamelles d'organza effiloché. Les ondes sont stylisées par des incrustations géométriques de galon noir sur le tweed. Les bords de veste reproduisent les filaments de méduse.

"La silhouette ne fonctionne que sur du plat" précise karl Lagerfeld.

Boots noires et blanches, tongues argentées lacées haut sur la cheville. Clutch coquillage en résine irisée, pochette en cuir exotique bordée de perles, petite bourse méduse en silicone brodé.

Le cuir matelassé transformé en paquet ficelé par une chaîne comme un trésor remonté à la surface.

Cette nouvelle silhouette s'orne de perles : autour du cou, le long de la colonne vertébrale ou en éclats iridescents dans la chevelure. En bouton ou en ceinture à la place de la chaîne, elles ponctuent et soulignent l'allure inédite de la collection Prêt-à-Porter Printemps-Eté 2012.
